Is Home Video Surveillance Worth the Money
It’s estimated that people will spend over $21 billion in home security by 2010. Security cameras are part of
this spending frenzy. Home video surveillance works well if they are the correct camera for the area and are
installed properly. I will explain which camera will work best for your area.
Before you pay for home video surveillance you need to determine available lighting, size of the monitored area,
picture detail, amount of cameras and monitors to be used and the space you have for your camera. Once this is
determined you will be able to purchase the correct camera and lens.
There are several different types of home video surveillance. I will mention the most popular. Outdoor cameras
can stand extreme temperatures, and are generally waterproof. Infra red cameras come equipped with infrared LED
lens to allow for monitoring in the dark.
Day night cameras are used if your monitored area is lit up by street lights or the moon. Mini and bullet
cameras are small easy to hide camera, that take great pictures, despite their size. Dome cameras are inside
cameras, usually protected by an armored covering. Digital camera can store pictures without a VCR and can be
computer edited.
Security cameras can be either hard wired and wireless. Hard wired cameras use coax cables to send and receive
signals from the camera to the monitor. The monitor can then record the footage on a DVR or VCR. Wireless security
cameras send signals to the monitor.
There is home security camera software on the market that allows a camera to transfer signals though LAN
adapters or wireless network to a web monitoring company. This allows you to monitor your home from virtually
anywhere. This company will also monitor the footage and notify you if something is occurring. The company will
save the pictures for you on a compressed file.
Home video surveillance and home security camera software were originally designed for government, banks and
stores, but with crime rate doubling in 5 years they are now being used in homes. There are numerous types of
security cameras made for specific conditions.
Some cameras come equipped with motion detectors that send signals to the camera to turn it on when something is
occurring. Others are designed for a specific type of light. Which ever one you choose, maker sure it is in a place
that is hardest to monitor.
